In both cases politics are a bit easier than Rome as you don't start as a republic, so don't have that loyalty penalty. You start at war with the Seleucids, but they have problems of their own which usually keep them busy. Their roster is also decent without too much in the way of gimmicks or units needing special strategies, except for chariots, which can be a bit finnicky but also fun.Įgypt are a solid faction with a decent sized unit roster, easy access to food (which makes it easier to build and upgrade buildings,) a central location with different ways you can choose to expand, and their nearest opponents aren't too difficult. Once you have the isles secured, you have a solid base to then expand into Gaul and beyond. ![]() Iceni start in a corner of the map and you can essentially play a short campaign with them just conquering the British Isles. The other two factions I tend to suggest for new players are the Iceni and Egypt. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists! I get particular fun out of "hunting" for Horde family members (the only way wipe them out) - you don't know fun until you take a general and a group of cavalry into battle against a enormous Horde army, finding the Warlords, killing them, and hopefully withdrawing without getting smashed to pieces! Also, I always enjoy allowing a troublesome huge city to rebel, only to recapture and loot it - a handy way to cut down on pesky citizens and get lots of cash pronto.Click here to set your flair! Welcome to /r/TotalWar!Ī subreddit for all of those who love the Total War series. ![]() In Barbarian Invasion, I love Western Rome, by sheer virtue of the fact that it's so horrendously difficult to play - not only do you have to fight off and completely eliminate the entire population of the Steppes and the German interior before they can settle anywhere (lest they horde again), but the massively populated cities break out in rebellion so often - because your impoverished empire can't offord to make them happy until you've sorted out other higher priorities. The inventive style of play they require is a source of a great entertainment - they're no footsloggers! You just can't beat armies made up of horse archers, elephants, hard-core cataphracts and thick-as-**** infantry for fun. Carthage is always gives me the most challenging games - and I have fun with that.īut I do love playing the Parthians - Armenia too.
